AC Compressor in Chennai
The compressor is the heart of a vehicle AC system: it pressurises refrigerant gas and pumps it around the loop. Without a working compressor there is no cooling at all.
What the AC compressor does
Driven by the engine belt through a magnetic clutch (or by an electric motor in EVs and some hybrids), the compressor draws in low-pressure refrigerant gas from the cooling coil and compresses it into hot, high-pressure gas that flows to the condenser. Fixed-displacement compressors cycle on and off; variable-displacement compressors adjust output with a control valve.
OEM or aftermarket?
Genuine OEM compressors match the original part number, pulley and mounting exactly. Quality aftermarket compressors cost less and suit older vehicles, but pulley grooves, clutch voltage, mounting points and connector type must be matched to the vehicle.
Signs of a failing AC compressor
- Warm air from the vents even with the AC on full
- Grinding, rattling or squealing noise when the AC is switched on
- The clutch does not engage, or engages and drops out repeatedly
- Oil or refrigerant leaking from the shaft seal or body
- The AC cools at highway speed but not at idle
Before you order

- Check refrigerant type (R134a or R1234yf), voltage (12V cars, 24V most trucks and buses) and pulley groove count.
- When a compressor fails internally, the receiver drier and expansion valve are usually replaced at the same time and the system is flushed.
