OEM vs Aftermarket AC Parts: Which Should You Buy?

Rameswar Cool Spares sells both genuine OEM and quality aftermarket AC parts. This is what the terms mean and how to choose between them.

What the terms mean

OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts are made by the company that supplied the carmaker, to the original specification – for example a Denso or Subros part fitted at the factory. Aftermarket parts are made by other manufacturers to fit the same vehicles.

When OEM makes sense

  • Newer vehicles where an exact match matters.
  • Parts that are hard to reach, such as the cooling coil inside the dashboard, where you want to do the job once.
  • Fleet vehicles where consistency across many vehicles helps.

When quality aftermarket makes sense

  • Older vehicles, including models no longer sold in India, where OEM stock is scarce or expensive.
  • Parts that wear regularly or are easy to replace, such as cabin filters, belts and fans.
  • When budget matters and the part has been matched to the original’s size, connections and mounting.
