AC Compressor Clutch in Chennai
The magnetic clutch connects and disconnects the compressor from the engine belt. A failed clutch stops the compressor even when the compressor itself is fine.
What the AC compressor clutch does
When the AC is switched on, an electromagnetic coil pulls the clutch plate against the spinning pulley so the compressor shaft turns. When the AC is off or the system reaches temperature, the coil releases and the pulley free-wheels on its bearing.
OEM or aftermarket?
A clutch set (coil, pulley and plate) can often be replaced without changing the whole compressor. The pulley diameter, groove count and coil voltage must match the original.

Signs of a failing AC compressor clutch
- Clicking but the compressor centre does not spin
- Grinding or whining noise from the pulley bearing, even with the AC off
- Burn marks or a large gap between clutch plate and pulley
- AC works intermittently, especially when the engine is hot
Before you order
- Note the pulley groove count and diameter, and whether the vehicle is 12V or 24V.
- A noisy pulley bearing alone can sometimes be replaced separately – ask us.

Frequently asked questions
Can I replace only the clutch instead of the whole compressor?
Often yes, if the compressor itself is healthy. Send the compressor model or a photo and we will check whether a matching clutch set is available.
